Bio:

Prof. Patricia Sibella is an Associate Professor at the University of Bordeaux Montaigne and a leading specialist in the Late Bronze Age. She completed her Master’s and PhD studies at Sorbonne University and later served as a visiting scholar at Texas A&M University. An experienced Dive Master, she has participated in major underwater excavations, focusing on excavation, documentation, and the study of ceramic cargoes, particularly amphorae and transport jars.

Her longstanding research ties with Israel began in the 1990s through underwater excavations at Dor Lagoon led by Shelley Wachsmann under the auspices of the Institute of Nautical Archaeology. She later contributed to the documentation and study of the Akko Tower shipwreck and participated in eight seasons of excavation of the Ma‘agan Mikhael B shipwreck. Professor Sibella is the author of the influential book Amphores, Comment les identifier? (1994), a landmark reference in amphora studies, and has recently co-authored an article with colleagues from the University of Haifa, accepted for publication in the Israel Exploration Journal.
