Bio:

Prof. Shmulik Nili is an internationally distinguished political theorist and leading voice in contemporary democratic theory, moral philosophy, and the study of political power. He is Professor of Political Science and (by courtesy) of Philosophy at Northwestern University, where his research integrates fundamental moral theory with social science to illuminate themes such as democratic integrity, corruption, political violence, collective agency, and the normative foundations of modern governance. His work is widely recognized for its conceptual rigor and its impact across political philosophy, democratic theory, and applied ethics.  

Prof. Shmulik Nili is the author of several influential books, including The People’s Duty (Cambridge University Press, 2019), Integrity, Personal and Political (Oxford University Press, 2020), Philosophizing the Indefensible (Oxford University Press, 2023), and Beyond the Law’s Reach? (Oxford University Press, 2024), and his research has been published in top-tier journals such as EthicsAmerican Political Science ReviewAmerican Journal of Political Science, and The Journal of Politics. He serves as Associate Editor for Perspectives on Politics, contributing to shaping scholarly dialogue in political science and philosophy.
