Bio:

Prof. David Klatzmann is a Professor of Immunology at Sorbonne University and Chief of Biotherapy at Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris. He coordinates the Inflammatory-Immunopathology-Immunotherapy Department and the Clinical Investigation Center in Biotherapy, where he leads translational research bridging fundamental immunology and innovative clinical applications.

Prof. Klatzmann played a key role in the discovery of HIV and was the first to demonstrate its preferential tropism for CD4+ T cells and its cytopathic effects—providing the earliest evidence that HIV is the cause of AIDS. He later identified CD4 as the primary receptor for HIV entry. In addition, he pioneered the concept of “suicide genes,” advancing this strategy from preclinical studies to clinical trials and contributing significantly to the development of gene-based immunotherapies.
