A delegation from the University of Haifa’s Faculty of Law won first place at the Manara Youth Coexistence Initiative Showcase 2026 in Abu Dhabi, competing against youth delegations from around the world. Representing the University, students Noa Yosef, Yahya Manaa, and Mika Talby-Shain presented a project developed through the Faculty’s “Shared Living” initiative, which was established by Prof. Faina Milman-Sivan and Adv. Dana Feinreich Gilo in the aftermath of October 7. Grounded in dialogue, mediation, and consensus-building, the initiative promotes cooperation and bridge-building across diverse communities. The delegation presented its vision before an international audience of ambassadors, government officials, academics, and opinion leaders, while also honoring the memory of University of Haifa student Shada Khatib. Alongside the competition victory, the students established meaningful connections with participants from Africa, Asia, and the Gulf region, creating new opportunities for future international collaboration. 

The University of Haifa celebrated Europe Day 2026 on May 13 with distinguished guests, including EU Ambassador to Israel H.E. Michael Mann, ambassadors from European countries, and members of the EU diplomatic corps. The event, dedicated to coexistence and shared society, featured academic discussions and round tables with students on topics of dialogue, conflict resolution, and social resilience. Reflecting the University’s commitment to diversity and mutual understanding, the gathering highlighted the important role of academia in fostering inclusive societies and strengthening international partnerships.

The University of Haifa and the University of Connecticut Joint Research Fund supports collaborative research initiatives between the two institutions. The fund is designed to promote new academic partnerships, encourage joint research activities, and lay the groundwork for future external funding applications and joint publications. The 2026 call supports projects across a wide range of disciplines, with an emphasis on strong collaborations and the unique contribution of each partner institution.

The University of Haifa held the inaugural conference of the Frieze Center for Shared Society, bringing together dozens of organizations and hundreds of participants from academia, civil society, government, and philanthropy. At a complex and sensitive time for Israeli society, the gathering offered a meaningful moment of hope, dialogue, and shared reflection on the possibility of building a more inclusive and connected society. The conference marked the beginning of a shared journey, with the aim of continuing to foster collaboration, deepen conversation, and promote initiatives that bring communities, institutions, and people together.

The Israel Leadership Week, organized by the International School of the University of Haifa, was recently featured in Ynet News, highlighting the Program’s impact on emerging campus leaders from around the world. Bringing together participants from the U.S., Canada, and Europe, the initiative provided a unique opportunity for meaningful dialogue, firsthand engagement with Israeli society, and deeper discussions on leadership and the rise of antisemitism on university campuses. Even during a complex and rapidly changing period, the experience reinforced the importance of international partnerships and academic exchange in fostering understanding and global leadership.

The University of Haifa is proud to celebrate the achievement of Basel Khalaila, a graduate of the Departments of Sociology and Political Science, who has been selected for the 2026 cohort of the prestigious Knight-Hennessy Scholars program at Stanford University. The highly competitive program brings together outstanding scholars recognized for academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to creating positive impact. Basel’s accomplishment reflects the University’s commitment to nurturing future leaders dedicated to advancing their communities and addressing global challenges.

Prof. Tally Katz-Gerro, VP for Global Engagement, participated in the first-ever multidisciplinary Israeli science conference in NYC. The event aimed to spotlight the excellence of Israeli research across all academic fields and build vital bridges between Israeli-American scientists and leading institutions in both countries. Prof. Katz-Gerro met with several scientists who are on the job market for a position in Israel and participated in a committee evaluating the Social Sciences posters presented at the conference.

Prof. Tally Katz-Gerro, VP for Global Engagement, held meetings at UPenn with senior management, leading to relationship building in the areas of Archaeology, Education, Environment, and Conflict Resolution. Prof. Katz-Gerro also held meetings. In late June. Prof. Katz-Gerro also visited the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz and Heidelberg University. Heidelberg University of Jewish Studies, and Heinrich Heine University of Dusseldorf. Collaboration in various research areas as well as exchange programs for faculty, students, and administrative staff were at the center of discussions. With staff at the Temple International Office, and discussed ways to forge collaborations between the universities, mainly in the areas of Health and Welfare.
